Structure, tools, discourse and practices: a multidimensional comparative approach to EU territorial governance
The concept of "EU territorial governance" has been recently adopted by planners and decision-makers to indicate the occurrence of a complex, multifaceted and largely undefined process of spatial planning and development activities guided, at various levels, in the European Union's institutional context. Building on a EU territorial governance conceptual framework elaborated by the authors in previous work, which individuates the specific âchannelsâ of interaction that convey change in European countries, on the one hand, and institutional progress at the EU level, on the other hand, the contribution aims to shed some light on the differential impact exerted by such channels as they manifests in relation to different Member States domestic contexts. It does so by adopting three different national contexts as case studies, representative of as many âideal typesâ of planning system traditions existing in Europe - namely , âcomprehensive integratedâ (Germany), âurbanismâ (Italy), plus a supposed âCentral and Eastern European socialist transitionâ type (Poland) - and providing a comparative analysis of the elements that, in relation to each of them, influence the evolution of European spatial planning and spatial planning domestic contexts within the complex framework of EU territorial governanc

Ontology-based model abstraction
In recent years, there has been a growth in the use of reference conceptual models to capture information about complex and critical domains. However, as the complexity of domain increases, so does the size and complexity of the models that represent them. Over the years, different techniques for complexity management in large conceptual models have been developed. In particular, several authors have proposed different techniques for model abstraction. In this paper, we leverage on the ontologically well-founded semantics of the modeling language OntoUML to propose a novel approach for model abstraction in conceptual models. We provide a precise definition for a set of Graph-Rewriting rules that can automatically produce much-reduced versions of OntoUML models that concentrate the modelsâ information content around the ontologically essential types in that domain, i.e., the so-called Kinds. The approach has been implemented using a model-based editor and tested over a repository of OntoUML models
When alarm bells ring: emergency tinnitus
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to develop a diagnostic-therapeutic algorithm for those suffering from tinnitus who seek emergency aid.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature review has been performed on articles from the last 30 years.
RESULTS: It is important to activate medical or surgical diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, in order to safeguard and rehabilitate the various functions affected. Psychiatric comorbidity is the most frequent pathological condition of those with serious or catastrophic tinnitus. In these cases, mortality risk is linked to suicide, morbidity to tinnitus-correlated distress.
CONCLUSIONS: Tinnitus, mainly linked to loss of hearing, is a frequent symptom among the population at large. About 7% of those affected by tinnitus turn to their doctor to solve their problem, while between 0.5 and 2% request urgent medical assistance. Their cry for help may be the result of an acute onset of tinnitus or the rapid impairment of an already chronic condition. Tinnitus is not considered an urgent ear, nose and throat (ENT) condition by the Associazione Otorinolaringologi Ospedalieri Italiani
(AOOI) [Italian Association of Hospital ENT], even though there are many pathological conditions,
sometimes serious, associated with tinnitus and emergency action is necessary to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality
How we treat bleeding associated with direct oral anticoagulants
Direct oral anticoagulants are at least as effective as vitamin K antagonists for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolism. Unfortunately, differently from vitamin K antagonists, they have the great drawback of lacking specific antidotes in the case of bleeding or emergency situations such as trauma, stroke requiring thrombolysis, and urgent surgery. The progressive development of antidotes for these new drugs, which, it is hoped, will become available in the near future, will allow better and safer management of the rapid reversal of their anticoagulant effect

We analyze the effect of a form factor in the magnetic contribution to K+ -->
pi+ pi0 gamma. We emphasize how this can show up experimentally: in particular
we try to explore the difference between a possible interference contribution
and a form factor in the magnetic part. The form factor used for K+ --> pi+ pi0
gamma is analogous to the one for KL --> pi+ pi- gamma, experimentally well

Zika virus and the never-ending story of emerging pathogens and transfusion medicine
In the last few years, the transfusion medicine community has been paying special attention to emerging vector-borne diseases transmitted by arboviruses. Zika virus is the latest of these pathogens and is responsible for major outbreaks in Africa, Asia and, more recently, in previously infection-naĂŻve territories of the Pacific area. Many issues regarding this emerging pathogen remain unclear and require further investigation. National health authorities have adopted different prevention strategies. The aim of this review article is to discuss the currently available, though limited, information and the potential impact of this virus on transfusion medicine
A decentralized scalable approach to voltage control of DC islanded microgrids
We propose a new decentralized control scheme for DC Islanded microGrids
(ImGs) composed by several Distributed Generation Units (DGUs) with a general
interconnection topology. Each local controller regulates to a reference value
the voltage of the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) of the corresponding DGU.
Notably, off-line control design is conducted in a Plug-and-Play (PnP) fashion
meaning that (i) the possibility of adding/removing a DGU without spoiling
stability of the overall ImG is checked through an optimization problem; (ii)
when a DGU is plugged in or out at most neighbouring DGUs have to update their
controllers and (iii) the synthesis of a local controller uses only information
on the corresponding DGU and lines connected to it. This guarantee total
scalability of control synthesis as the ImG size grows or DGU gets replaced.
Yes, under mild approximations of line dynamics, we formally guarantee
stability of the overall closed-loop ImG. The performance of the proposed

Softness dependence of the Anomalies for the Continuous Shouldered Well potential
By molecular dynamic simulations we study a system of particles interacting
through a continuous isotropic pairwise core-softened potential consisting of a
repulsive shoulder and an attractive well. The model displays a phase diagram
with three fluid phases, a gas-liquid critical point, a liquid-liquid critical
point, and anomalies in density, diffusion and structure. The hierarchy of the
anomalies is the same as for water. We study the effect on the anomalies of
varying the softness of the potential. We find that, making the soft-core
steeper, the regions of density and diffusion anomalies contract in the T -
{\rho} plane, while the region of structural anomaly is weakly affected.
Therefore, a liquid can have anomalous structural behavior without density or
diffusion anomalies. We show that, by considering as effective distances those
corresponding to the maxima of the first two peaks of the radial distribution
function g(r) in the high-density liquid, we can generalize to continuous
two-scales potentials a criterion for the occurrence of the anomalies of
density and diffusion, originally proposed for discontinuous potentials. We
observe that the knowledge of the structural behavior within the first two
coordination shells of the liquid is not enough to establish the occurrence of
the anomalies. By introducing the density derivative of the the cumulative
order integral of the excess entropy we show that the anomalous behavior is
regulated by the structural order at distances as large as the fourth
coordination shell. By comparing the results for different softness of the
potential, we conclude that the disappearing of the density and diffusion
anomalies for the steeper potentials is due to a more structured short-range
order. All these results increase our understanding on how, knowing the
interaction potential, we can evaluate the possible presence of anomalies for a
liquid
